Nohj Ellis (John Franklin Sells) was born November 27th, 1991 in Richmond, VA. He, along with his parents, moved to Columbia, SC in 2001, where he made his way through several public schools. It was in middle school that he was introduced to hip-hop through XXL Mag covers, radio, and ringtones. From the Isley Brothers and Four Tops playing through his parent's speakers at family cookouts, to Lil' Wayne and The Game lyrics rapped over table top beats in the cafeteria, his influences were eclectic, to say the least. Having attended Charleston Southern University in 2010, he encountered the Impact Movement, a parachurch organization aimed at African Americans on college campuses. It was through the Impact Movement that he would eventually meet his now wife, in 2013. Graduating in 2014, he married Orianna Joy in 2016, and since then, they have been creating music and moods together.
